Train the Trainer
We prepare experienced teachers to become DI coaches and leaders, building long-term in-school expertise.
Building DI
Instructional Leaders
This is an advanced training for DI teachers, guiding them to become DI instructional leaders in their school or district.
- DI mastery teachers are chosen in the 2nd year.
- By the 3rd year, DILS aims to “put itself out of business” by developing an internal capacity of DI instructional leaders.
- The goal is to leave the school or district with an intact system for maintaining supportive coaching and supervision after DILS concludes its work.
Developing Mastery &
Coaching Skills
In the 3rd year of implementation, we start to train those master teachers to:
- Conduct side-by-side coaching.
- Write Teacher Support Forms (TSFs).
- Facilitate Exit Conferences with administrators.
These DI instructional leaders also build:
- Interpersonal skills to manage diverse classroom and teacher dynamics.
- Problem-solving strategies for addressing challenges.
- Tools and methods for ongoing teacher and student support.
This training fosters a collaborative community, especially when multiple schools in a district attend the training together.
The Learning
Process in Action
The DI Learning Paradigm forms the backbone of this training.
- Master teachers shadow a DILS consultant who models coaching methods.
- The consultant leads the master teacher in these methods.
- The master teacher delivers coaching to a teacher, reaching mastery level.
- Over time, the master teacher coaches independently, while the DILS consultant continues to provide feedback.
This consistent and transparent process mirrors how students learn in DI – reinforcing that what we practice with students is equally effective for adult learners.
