Side-by-Side Coaching
Whether we’ve implemented Direct Instruction for an entire school district or just for some teachers in a small school, we’re committed to supporting teachers and their students to success through personalized instruction.
Monthly Coaching
We meet with each teacher monthly while they are teaching a DI lesson to their students. Throughout the lesson, the coach provides explicit feedback to the teacher along with encouragement and recognition. The coach will also provide interventions as needed throughout the lesson. We approach coaching as what we need to do to best support each individual teacher in growing as an effective Direct Instruction educator.
Interactive, Guided Coaching
Coaching is interactive and follows the DI Learning Paradigm of:
Model
We effectively model the specific behavior we want a teacher to adopt by actively demonstrating it ourselves through the process of teaching their children directly.
Lead
If necessary, we carefully guide the teacher step by step through their newly acquired skill, ensuring they fully understand and feel confident in applying it effectively in their teaching practice.
Test
We ‘test’ the teacher to ensure they have mastered the new learning.
Retest
If not, we determine what solution or intervention can be used to achieve mastery for all adult learners.
Personalized Feedback
In follow-up to each coaching session, teachers are provided with a detailed Teacher Support Form which includes:
- Glows: What they did well
- Grows: Steps they need to implement to improve by the next month.
- Why: Explanations of the reasoning behind certain practices.
