We began seeing a dramatic drop in children who qualified for SPED because their phonemic skills increased so much that they were no longer qualifying. We started implementing RMK as the Tier 1 reading program throughout Kindergarten during the 2022/2023 school year. This year’s numbers made it abundantly clear what a massive difference using RMK as the Tier 1 instruction with the entire Kindergarten class has been.
The first year we implemented DI, the majority of our third-grade students were in Decoding A (the Corrective Reading program for the most naive learners). This year, we only have 1 student who was placed in that program.
